Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Eastern Caribbean (Grenada Branch)

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Eastern Caribbean – Grenada

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Eastern Caribbean (ICAEC) is a professional accountancy body formed on June 17, 2004 representing accountants in the Eastern Caribbean, including Grenada, St Kitts & Nevis, St Lucia and Antigua & Barbuda.

Members of the accountancy bodies which had previously been active in the region (the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Antigua and Barbuda, the St Kitts-Nevis Association of Chartered Accountants and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of St Lucia) became the founder members of the ICAEC which established 3 branches in St Kitts & Nevis, St Lucia and Antigua & Barbuda.  Grenada was soon to follow establishing the ICAEC – Grenada Branch in 2010.

The Bill which gives legal effect and provides for the implementation of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Eastern Caribbean Agreement was passed by the House of Representatives (the lower house) on 22nd June 2010 and the Senate (the upper house) on 7th July 2010 and is called The Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Eastern Caribbean Agreement Act No. 17 of 2010. The Grenada branch currently has twenty-nine members.

With a project funded by the World Bank and in an effort to strengthen and grow the Accounting Industry in Grenada and the Eastern Caribbean, the ICAEC is working feverishly to train their members in many areas such as:

  • International Standards on Auditing (ISAs) developed by the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB);
  •  International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRSs) developed by the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB);
  •  International Financial Reporting Standards for Small and Medium Enterprises (IFRS for SMEs) developed by the IASB;
  •  International Education Standards (IESs) developed by the International Accounting Education Standards Board (IAESB); and
  •  Code of Ethics for Professional Accountants developed by the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants (IESBA).

As a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Caribbean (ICAC) and the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA), the ICAEC has been making tremendous strides in regulating the Accounting Industry in Grenada and the Eastern Caribbean.
